HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CHOOSES QUAKE GLOBAL’S SATELLITE MODEM FOR ITS GLOBAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS ASSET MONITORING SYSTEM
SAN DIEGO – Quake Global, Inc., the leading manufacturer of satellite modems for the heavy equipment industry, announced today that Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. has selected Quake Global and Korea ORBCOMM to supply satellite communicators and airtime for its new “Hi-Mate” global communications system for heavy equipment tracking and monitoring.
Hyundai’s Hi-Mate is an onboard vehicle monitoring and communications system that will allow owners and operators of high-value equipment to monitor key productivity, usage, location, and performance information. As an integral module in the Hi-Mate device, Quake Global’s mo-dems will enable Hi-Mate to communicate through the ORBCOMM® M2M network around the world.
“Hyundai has agreed to purchase modems and airtime from ORBCOMM’s country representa-tive, Korea ORBCOMM,” according to Gene Song, CEO of Korea ORBCOMM. “I am pleased that Hyundai Heavy Industries has decided to conduct a global launch of the Hi-Mate System. A long series of field tests has proven that a Quake Global modem communicating with the ORBCOMM M2M network is a very reliable and highly competitive combination in this indus-try. Hyundai plans to expand its telematics system to many series of its heavy equipment and to the after-market as well. Initial deployment of Hi-Mate has already begun in North America and soon will be expanded to include additional regions,” said Song.
“We are delighted that Hyundai has chosen to integrate Quake’s satellite modems into its state of the art ‘Hi-Mate’ communications system,” said Polina Braunstein, President and CEO of Quake Global. “Hyundai is widely known for its insistence on maintaining the highest standards of quality and demanding that its suppliers do the same. Quake Global has established a world-wide reputation for delivering that high quality, as shown by its list of heavy equipment OEMs that currently use Quake Global satellite modems in their tracking solutions: BELL, CATER-PILLAR, HITACHI, KOMATSU, SUMITOMO, and VOLVO CONSTRUCTION. Providing these mission-critical modems to HYUNDAI is another major step in Quake Global’s goal to be the dominant supplier of satellite modems to the heavy equipment industry,” said Braunstein.
