Melbourne, Australia: December 9, 2010:  M2M Connectivityintroduces a new line of smart cellular routers – the ACM5004-G from Opengear, a leading provider of next generation console server and remote management solutions.  The ACM5004-G is a next generation cellular router, console server and firewall for Smart Infrastructure Management.

Where previous generations of wireless routers and firewalls were limited to managing distributed Ethernet devices, Opengear has created a new category with its smart cellular routers. Opengear’s advanced ACM5004-G routers unify firewall, power management, environmental monitoring and advanced console server functionality.  The Opengear
ACM5004-G monitors all devices with serial, USB, Ethernet and digital I/O interfaces. This device also allows for UPS monitoring and management for PDUs and RPS.  The  environmental monitoring capabilities of the ACM5004-G router include internal temperature sensors and optional support for attaching sensors for smoke, fire, vibration, water detection and door contacts.

The Opengear ACM5004-G is also the most secure cellular smart router on the market, offering industry-leading security with RSA certification and FIPS140-2 compliance.

Smart cellular routers are particularly useful for managing new types of distributed smart infrastructures being built to manage gas pipelines, traffic flow and utilities. These deployments require secure, full-proof remote connection and management across all the devices at the remote site.

“A growing number of our customers have been asking for a next generation cellular smart router,” said Bob Waldie, CEO of Opengear. “While there are quality wireless solutions in the market – like Digi’s ConnectWAN and Sierra Wireless’ AirLink – that provide masquerading, forwarding and filtered access to remote devices, they don’t provide the functionality, they aren’t as easy to use and they don’t provide the security of our solutions.  Our new class of smart cellular router goes beyond these legacy solutions as we provide access to remote devices, and also monitor and manage the whole remote site.”
