M2M Connectivity

April 2011

Global mobile Suppliers Association confirms that almost 200 operators worldwide are currently investing in LTE systems with the expectation of LTE networks to be in commercial service by the end of 2012.  Suggestions of exciting market opportunities and new possibilities for M2M applications and connected devices arise. Suitable for LTE networks, we feature Sierra Wireless’s AirPrime MC7710 module.
Vodafone has approved Sierra Wireless’s AirLink Fastrack Xtend modem and the AirPrime modules Q2687, SL6087 and MC8795 for its global networks, streamlining and lowering the cost of final product certification for customers using the pre-certified products.
Sierra Wireless Open AT Courses are scheduled for Sydney: May 17-19 and Melbourne June 7-9. Contact us for course syllabus and costs.
Also in May, M2M Connectivity will be exhibiting at Ozwater’11. For details and link to free entry see details below.

Sierra Wireless MC7710 LTE/HSPA+ module

MC7710The MC7710 provides 4G LTE Mobile Broadband connections for laptops and networking gear and can be easily integrate into a variety of devices requiring high speed LTE or HSPA+ connectivity.
The AirPrime MC7710 module allows developers to take advantage of the latest generation of high-speed mobile networks, delivering up to 100Mbps download speeds and 50Mbps upload speeds and integrated GPS capabilities as well as support for both Linux and Windows.
The MC7710 offers LTE connectivity on 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz networks (Telstra is rolling out an LTE network in late 2011 using 1800 Mhz) and the MC7710 also supports HSPA+ (900/2100 Mhz) and GSM/GPRS.

Sierra Wireless MC8705

MC8705Replacing the MC8700, the Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8705 embedded module offers quad-band HSPA+ data speeds (up to 21 Mbps peak download speeds and peak uplink speeds up to 5.76 Mbp) across all 3G/HSPA networks operating in Australia and New Zealand.
The HSPA+ data speeds of the MC8705 allow developers to expand their applications into areas requiring higher bandwidth including video download, 3G broadband ethernet, and internet access.
In addition the MC8705 offers integrated GPS (through support for Qualcomm’s gpsOne technology) allowing developers to design in one module for both high speed cellular and GPS.
The MC8704 voice version will be available May 2011.

Tech Tip

Sierra Wireless Location library for XM0110
When  you use  the   AirPrime  XM0110    GPS
Module (based on SiRFstarIV™) in combination with your AirPrime WMP100/150, SL6087, Q2686, Q2687 or Q26 Extreme wireless module, your application does not need to handle low level interfacing with the GPS chipset – the Location library performs this task.
The Location library for Open AT OS is available as part of the Sierra Wireless Embedded Application Framework. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving a copy of the location library or the complete Open AT Software Development Kit.  Click here for more information.
