Melbourne, Australia – May 10, 2012:  M2M Connectivity introduces the new AirPrime Q2698 embedded module, expanding options for 3G in M2M.  The Q2698 provides five-band 3G HSPA+ connectivity to serve global deployments and enables custom application development with the Sierra Wireless Open AT® Application Framework.  Customers already using AirPrime Q series modules can seamlessly migrate to the new Q2698 from their existing 2G or 3G Q series module using the same hardware platform design and embedded applications they had developed for earlier products.

The AirPrime Q2698 can be used in a wide variety of fixed or mobile M2M deployments in segments such as industrial, energy, sales and payment, transportation, or healthcare. It provides network access nearly anywhere in the world, including Australia, North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, China, and Japan.

The module includes integrated GPS technology allowing for rapid design and reduced design requirements for fleet management, asset tracking, and other location-based applications. The Q2698 module also features best-in-class analog and digital audio capabilities and a large set of interfaces to ease integration.

The Sierra Wireless Open AT Application Framework simplifies development of M2M applications by allowing access to the powerful processor of the Q2698 to embed application software within the wireless module.  This eliminates the need for external runtime units to perform logic functions.  The result is faster time to market and reduced overall system cost.  

The Open AT Framework uses industry-standard C language programming, streamlining software development. It includes a comprehensive set of software libraries and a powerful, easy-to-use integrated development environment, the Sierra Wireless Developer Studio. Open AT also provides seamless connectivity with the Sierra Wireless AirVantage™ M2M Cloud Platform to enable advanced remote device and asset management, as well as subscriber management in collaboration with global network operators.
