Melbourne, Australia – December 16, 2011: M2M Connectivity introduces the new connectBlue Rugged Bluetooth Ethernet Port Adapter RBE231 featuring Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a communication range of up to 1000 meters.
The RBE231 is suitable for industrial installations, transportation and data acquisition applications when there is a need to replace the Ethernet cable with a reliable and maintenance-free Bluetooth connection.
The new Rugged Bluetooth Ethernet Port Adapter RBE231 replaces the RBEPA which was launched in 2008. In addition to the features found in the former device, the RBE231 also offers greater throughput and longer range (1000 meters). “The robust and water proof Rugged Bluetooth Ethernet Port Adapter RBE231 provides a plug-and-play solution to replace Ethernet cables,” says Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue. “We have implemented several features in order to make the 1000 meter long wireless link as reliable as is required in tough medical and industrial applications.”
Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) and the connectBlue Low Emission Mode™ provides robust wireless co-existence, solving potential interference disturbances between Bluetooth technology and Wireless LAN not handled by AFH. Furthermore, the RBE231 supports Bluetooth roaming and has an IP65 classed housing.
The SMART configuration mode and the availability of a web browser configuration tool makes configuration easy. The new Rugged Bluetooth Ethernet Port Adapter RBE231 is compatible throughout connectBlue product generations and technologies, providing a seamless upgrade possibility without the need for product redesign, upgrade investments or qualification approvals. This compatibility strategy allows the RBE231 to be a possible Bluetooth alternative to the Rugged Wireless LAN Ethernet Port Adapters RWE231 and RWE241. The RBE231 is radio type approved for FCC, IC and R&TTE, compliant with EMC, Safety and Medical standards, and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR qualified (3.0 prepared via firmware upgrade). These certificates allow customers to save on development resources and easily integrate wireless communication without having to go through lengthy and costly approval and qualification processes.
