M2M & IoT News for April 2017

Over the last few months we have started to hear about the next technological leap forward
for cellular wireless technology – 5G. While 5G technology, (when it is ready), will be great for applications requiring very low-latency and high data speed, for most M2M/IoT solutions
we should stay focused on current cellular standards and the new LPWAN offerings.
Examples where 5G will benefit users include autonomous systems communicating with management platforms, as well as many video solutions.

For the next few years though, we expect the market to focus on leveraging what we have available today with LTE, coupled with the emergence of at least 3 technology options for low power wide area networks (LPWAN).

Today we can offer Sigfox and LoRaWAN hardware, and within the next 2-3 months will be
offering LTE Cat M1 modules from Sierra Wireless, meaning we can cover any of the main LPWAN technologies to meet your needs.

M2M Connectivity works with a number of leading LPWAN brands and can help you to
identify the best fit technology for your applications – please contact us if this is of interest.

Connect Expo Recap

We had a fantastic time at this year’s Connect Expo, which took place at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, on the 29 – 30th of March.

We had a Cat-1 modem – with connection to Cumulocity – demonstration, thanks to
our friends at Traverse Technologies.
You can find the video, along with others, on our YouTube Channel.

We were also provided with a Sigfox-connected base station demo, thanks to
Anat and Kade from Thinxtra.

Libelium 4-20 mA Current Loop

The 4-20mA (Current Loop) Board adds wireless connectivity to your 4-20 mA devices and connects them to the Cloud. It has 4 input channels which allow the user to convert signals that come from 3rd party sensors or devices.

It is one of the most robust sensor signalling standards. Current loops are ideal for data transmission because of their inherent insensitivity to electrical noise.

LPWANs and the IoT – Presentation

M2M Connectivity’s own José Torres will be presenting two sessions on
the topic of Low-Power Wide-Area Networks and the Internet of Things
in the AU/NZ region.

The first talk – hosted by Telsoc – is taking place this month, on Thursday 27th
at the Telstra Conference Centre, 242 Exhibition St, Melbourne from 12:30-2:00pm.

The second event, hosted by Engineers Australia, is scheduled for the 8th May,
in their offices at 600 Bourke Street, Melbourne from 6:30-8:30pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!
