M2M Connectivity Newsletter February 2013

By 01/02/2013September 6th, 2021No Comments

February 2013

This month Telstra announced it’s planned expansion of the 4G network into the 900 MHz band to cater for users in rural and regional areas. Telstra’s 4G network on 1800 MHz  currently covers around 40 per cent of the Australian population. The refarming of the 900MHz band from 2G to LTE could potentially affect 2G users who represent only a small percentage of Telstra’s customers.
Unlike the US, there has been no indication by any Australian mobile carrier of a timeframe for switching off the 2G network.  Last August, AT&T announced plans to shut down 2G GSM/ GPRS by Jan. 1, 2017.  This shutdown will impact about 12 to 14 million devices currently on AT&T’s GSM network.
M2M Connectivity is offering a discounted price for the NetComm 3G10-WVT Gateway which utlizes the coverage and speeds of the Telstra NextG network.  Also in this newsletter is a free trial of Sierra Wireless’s AirLink Management Services.

NEW INMARSAT 9502 BGAN M2M With Integrated Antenna

The Hughes 9502 all-IP, BGAN M2M satellite terminal is now available in a new version with integrated antenna.
This integration of the 9502 modem with a compact antenna creates a single-piece, integrated, rugged terminal to withstand the most extreme weather conditions with the highest IP-66 ingress protection industry rating for outdoor installation.
Providing reliable IP connectivity over the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), it includes backup and out-of-band management to primary site communications—ideal for SCADA and unattended sites equipped for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications such as environmental monitoring, SmartGrid, pipeline monitoring/ control, compressor monitoring/control, well site automation and surveillance.

IsatData PRO IDP680

The IDP680 IsatData Pro modem works on Inmarsat’s global satellite constellation, providing for 2-way text and data communications with your assets.
The Inmarsat IsatData Pro network allows download of near real-time messages of up to 10,000 bytes to any device, and upload up to 6,400 bytes from the device. This increase in data packet size and transmission speed meets customer demands for higher data capacity and reduced latency in M2M solutions.
Designed for mission- critical applications, all messages are delivered within seconds, making the IDP680 modem ideal for sending information to people operating in high-risk areas, reporting alarm conditions and retrieving logs from remote equipment during an emergency.
Further applications include transferring electronic documents and vehicle telemetry information, text- messaging remote workers and maintaining up-to-date driver logs and more. There is also an off-the-shelf front-end application available with the ISAT IDP680 to allow you to track and monitor assets/vehicles if you don’t have your own solution.
