By 2017, the Internet of Things (IoT) market will be one of the fastest growing segments in the Asia-Pacific technology industry with total regional spending on IoT forecasted to be US$59 billion by 2020, according to Andrew Milroy, Senior Vice President, ICT Practice, Asia Pacific, at Frost & Sullivan. IoT will offer the greatest opportunities in APAC with manufacturing and consumer technology expected to be two of the fastest growing segments over the next two years.

CommunicAsia is one of the largest platforms organised for the ICT industry in the Asia-Pacific region attracting global industry brands to showcase key and emerging technologies. This year the Victorian Government has affirmed its commitment to the export of Victorian ICT innovations, hosting a Victorian Pavilion featuring 18 Victorian organisations at this event. As a part of this initiative, M2M Connectivity and M2M One will be exhibiting at CommunicAsia in Singapore next week on State Government of Victoria’s stand BN2-07. LTE: NEW MiniPCIe Adaptor Board

MiniPCIe adaptor card

This carrier board provides a solution for customers
who were using the UART feature of the MC series
modules.  The miniPCIe adapter board offers an
alternative now that there is no Sierra Wireless product
in MC Series footprint.

The UART interface is ideal for controllers who use serial
interface. The board also includes USB interface.

Equipped with an HL socket, modules (2G, 3G or 4G) can
be fittedto the miniPCIe board by the customer to suit the
application.

NEW SkyWave Vessel Monitoring Solutions (VMS) Kit

The SkyWave VMS kit is designed to
simplify the development and deployment
of VMS solutions. Pre-certified by the
Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA),
the kit comprises hardware, terminal
application, and services for the integration of
a vessel tracking solution all from a single
provider at competitive prices.

The VMS Kit includes an IDP-690 satellite
communications terminal with pre-installed
VMS Agent.  This configurable software
application enables periodic and event-based
reporting, GPS position reports, geofence alerts,
system status reports, data logging and two-way
e-mail capabilities and remote configuration.

The SVM-610 Interface Unit in the kit relays status information to the vessel operator via
LED indicators. The Unit can connect to a computer through serial port to allow for system

The award-winning ODIN W2 from u-blox is a compact,
powerful standalone multiradio module supporting dual-band
Wi-Fi and dual-mode Bluetooth.

Designed for the ioT applications, the module is complete
with embedded driver, stack and application for wireless

support includes dual-mode Bluetooth v4.0 (classic Bluetooth

Tech TipPLMN selection for any module

When the module is in manual mode for Operator selection, how is the PLMN selected?

The network selection is done by an algorithm which is provided in the 3GPP specification
(3GPP spec 23.022 4.4.3.1.B ). According to it, this is how the process of searching for a PLMN in
Manual Network selection Mode will work:

The MS indicates whether there are any PLMNs, in all of its bands of operation, which are available.
PLMN’s are presented in the following order:

1. HPLMN;
2. PLMNs contained in the “PLMN Selector” data field in the SIM (in priority order);
3. Other PLMNs with received high quality signal in random order;
4. All other PLMNs in order of decreasing signal quality.

If the user does not select a PLMN, the selected PLMN shall be the one that was selected before
the PLMN selection procedure started. If no such PLMN was selected or that PLMN is no longer
available, then the MS shall attempt to camp on any acceptable cell and enter the LIMITED
SERVICE STATE (emergency calls only).
