2G cellular data services have served millions of devices for years, and continue to be employed
in virtually every market worldwide. However, the sunset of 2G networks, and the evolution of 3G
and 4G cellular networks, are changing the landscape of cellular services.
In Australia 2G networks will not continue indefinitely. Telstra, Australia’s largest network will shut
down its 2G/GSM network by the end of 2016 and operators are capping existing 2G services
and are transitioning to 3G and 4G technologies. As an OEM or an enterprise developing M2M
applications, when does it make sense to shift to newer 3G and 4G LTE services?
Now is the time to be designing new systems with scalability in mind
The white paper: Planning a Scalable Long-Term Wireless Strategy by Sierra Wireless looks at
migrating from 2G to 3G or 4G LTE for companies developing IoT and M2M applications,
especially those building solutions for longer-term deployments.
This white paper:
– Explores the current cellular services landscape and where it is headed;
– Discusses where 2G, 3G, and 4G may fit into your long-term roadmap, and;
– Offers design considerations for scalable solutions.
